Mass transit screening for passenger SHIPS

The heightened threat of terrorist attacks all around the world has focused attention on the protection of passengers on land and at sea.

Screening people at ports presents many problems, though, as there are practical and cultural constraints to be considered, especially where large numbers are involved.

ThruVis, our unique people-screening camera, checks for concealed weapons and threat items without disturbing passengers as they go about their business.

Ours is the only technology of its kind capable of detecting objects of virtually any material, even under multiple layers of clothing.

It will highlight hidden explosives and liquids, and in tests was 100 per cent successful in detecting anyone wearing a bomb vest or carrying a hidden weapon up to a range of 15 metres.

ThruVis is portable, requires no infrastructure and can be set up in minutes.

Its TeraHertz cameras gather instant images with no harmful effects to the human body and avoid any invasion of privacy because no anatomical details of the person being screened are revealed.

Units can be deployed covertly so the ship's passengers are not even aware they are being screened. Images can be streamed to staff with mobile devices in real time and integrated into existing security management systems for command and control centres.

ThruVis’s potential to save lives by providing an early warning of a threat has led to an increase in its use around the world in the last year.

It is now a major deterrent in the fight against crime and terrorism in 10 countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the Middle East and Asia.

Real-time video surveillance from SHIPs

Even if a ship has CCTV cameras to provide information to the crew and keep a record of events on board, there can be times when real-time video is what is needed.

If the full picture is known when an incident occurs mid-voyage, decisions can be taken quickly and with confidence.

Obtaining usable video content from vessels at sea is problematic. Communications are often limited and conventional video codecs are not designed for transmission over low bandwidth or constrained networks.

Typically image break-up or delay renders video feeds unusable.

Our EdgeVis Live technology offers real-time video streaming with none of these issues.

It was specifically developed to overcome the problems of streaming over congested and low-bandwidth, wireless networks, and will reliably deliver usable and continuous video and audio even over GPRS/2G/Satellite at bandwidths as low as 9Kbps.

Our unique technology uses around 60% less bandwidth than standard video transmission systems so there are significant savings in data too, making video feeds from vessels at sea cost effective as well as viable.

EdgeVis Live requires no infrastructure and can be set up in minutes, while EdgeVis Body Worn is as mobile as the staff relaying images from their uniforms.

The footage can also be integrated into existing video management systems, while secure local recording allows accurate evidence of events to be kept.

Simultaneous remote access of the live feed can also be relayed to a control room and via mobile devices to crews on other vessels.

Unparalleled real-time streaming from vessels enhances safety and provides situational awareness in times of emergency.

Crane safety cameras for docks

Confined spaces and poor weather conditions can compromise a crane operator's direct line of sight.

This reduces operational effectiveness and raises safety concerns.

EdgeVis Crane, our unique wireless transmission technology, delivers live video from below a crane hook to an operator, hugely improving communication.

By looking at an HD monitor in the cab, the operator can now see the crane load, signaller and surroundings, dramatically reducing the potential for accidents in a dock.

Blind lifts are eliminated, unbalanced loads can be identified earlier, while multi-level lifts become easier and faster, leading to greater productivity.

There is also the option to add further cameras to a system to provide extra views from a dock that can be streamed anywhere required.

Our EdgeVis technology was specifically developed to overcome the problems of streaming over low bandwidth wireless networks, and will reliably deliver real-time video and audio even over GPRS/2G/Satellite connections at bandwidths as low as 9kbps.

There are significant savings in data too because our unique technology uses around 60% less bandwidth than other standards-based systems.

Video can also be relayed in real-time to supervisors with a laptop or phone, whether they are in the dock or elsewhere.

Even over constrained networks, our innovative technology offers the option to zoom in and retrieve high-resolution images.

Footage can be archived to settle disputes or kept for training purposes.

As well as enhancing operational effectiveness, EdgeVis Crane can also be integrated with a range of onboard systems as such as SMIE anti-collision, setting new standards in safety.

Site and perimeter security solutions

Seaports sometimes have perimeters where the installation of fixed CCTV is simply not viable.

But Digital Barriers’ highly adaptable, visually intelligent, surveillance technology offers a cost-effective solution to guarding against trespassing, vandalism and theft.

We can provide a targeted mobile security system that will alert security staff and allow them to see live wireless video of any intrusion.

SmartVis, our world-class video analytics technology, will detect when a person is present but ignore nuisance alarms caused by adverse weather, animals, camera movement, shadows or variable lighting.

It is certified by the UK Government’s i-LIDS® scheme as an approved primary detection system for perimeter security.

SmartVis-linked cameras can be moved around easily to target any gaps in existing security or monitor known trouble spots.

The system can also be hosted in the cloud, avoiding the need for costly investment in servers and maintenance.

EdgeVis Shield, our integrated surveillance platform solution, can combine all this technology with existing infrastructure and covert ground sensors. These sensors can be moved around in targeted areas to provide fast and reliable alerts.

Control rooms and tactical response units receive an immediate view of alarm events – including access to real-time video from fixed cameras as well as staff's EdgeVis Body Worn cameras.

Our EdgeVis technology was specifically developed to overcome the problems of streaming video over low bandwidth wireless networks. It will reliably deliver real-time video and audio even over GPRS/2G/Satellite connections at bandwidths as low as 9kbps.

There are significant savings in data too because our unique technology uses around 60% less bandwidth than other standards-based systems.

Even over constrained networks, our innovative technology offers the option to zoom in and retrieve high-resolution images.

Digital Barriers' technology can target specific areas, providing a more accurate interpretation of suspicious activity as well as offering remote live viewing and camera control for visual confirmation of intrusions and an intelligent response.
