Insights and Papers

How is technology transforming the way in which organisation approach surveillance? What are the benefits of IP versus hybrid video networks? How can video analytics be deployed effectively? Why are some wireless surveillance solutions better than others?

We believe that technology has the potential to drive profound improvements in surveillance capabilities. However, technology innovation also raises signfiicant questions to be addressed in terms of operational benefits, feasibility, adoption and cost-effectiveness.

We believe in objective assessments and pragmatic applications of innovative surveillance technologies. Digital Barriers develops points of view on surveillance topics, techniques and technologies - as well as publishling technical papers that explain our key technologies.

WIRELESS SURVEILLANCE

Not all wireless solutions are created equal...

Wireless video transmission is critical to the surveillance capabilities of many sectors and organisations, from covert law enforcement operations to incident response and transport monitoring. However, while conventional approaches can be costly and complex, standards based approaches to video compression, such as H.264 encoding, that use 3G or GPRS network often fail when exposed to real world operational conditions.

TVI from Digital Barriers is a world-class wireless video solution that is extremely effective over very low bandwidth networks. It was designed from the outset to address the specific technical challenges both video encoding and data tranmission. This paper sets out the major differences in technical design and approach between TVI and the video compression technologies commonly used in other standards based solutions.
