INNOVATION > SERVICESThinking Outside the Lines on Intruder DetectionThe traditional approach to intruder detection is to deploy sensors along the perimeter of a site or location and await an activation to which an appropriate response can be triggered. This ‘wait and see’ approach to physical security is heavily dependent upon the reliability of the sensors and technology deployed and the reactions of the monitoring personnel. In essence, this well established approach to security is sedentary and reactive in nature. Digital Barriers believes that in order to provide truly holistic protective security, any security solution must be proactive and exploit the precursors to security events that exist in every scenario. Through the use of a system – using zone based identification of suspicious or nefarious activity – we believe that the majority of security events can be identified and predicted, thereby allowing security managers to put in place focused defensive measures. When considering comprehensive surveillance and security solutions, we understand that it is important to consider the options in terms of four zones of defence as follows: Warnings and Indicators: the gathering of information concerning activity around remote or displaced locations that provide services or support to the main site or location. Long-Term Threats: the use of sensors and technology to detect activity within areas that are outside the perimeter but allow observation of the site or location by would be intruders. Immediate Threats: threats that manifest themselves at the perimeter of a site or location. Protective Measures: deployment of technology and sensors within the perimeter to protect vital or mission-critical assets. In essence, this creates an interlocking protective ring with four mutually supporting layers, with each layer capable of independent operation if necessary. Given the proactive nature of this security approach, the benefits to security managers are two-fold. First, they are able to better focus their security efforts and upgrade or bolster security in areas of most need and second, they are able to predict security events and take a more proactive stance.
What you can see below are examples of where Digital Barriers provides technology and sensors that add true value to protective security and how each technology fits into each of the zones of this more proactive and pre-emptive approach to security.
