INNOVATION > COMPLEX SURVEILLANCESmarter Video Analytics for the Real WorldThe 4D technology from Digital Barriers is a real world approach to video content analysis. Where many video analytics solutions suffer from excessively high false alarm rates, the 4D video analytics technology uses a ‘reasoning engine’ to analyse events in terms of space as well as time – correlating events with a timeline to provide context to activity within a scene. This provides an interpretation of events more in line with human perception and a more accurate assessment of security and safety scenarios. In addition, the 4D technology can automatically compensate for environmental factors – such as changing illumination, shadow, clouds and adverse weather conditions – which can otherwise impair detection. In real world operational conditions, this provides more accurate detection of events such as perimeter and zone incursions, lower false alarm rates and more effective decision support for surveillance operatives. To appreciate the benefits, it is best to see this in practice… What you can see in the below examples is the 4D video analytics technology being applied in two scenes, one demonstrating the use of a timeline to interpret events in the scene, one providing accurate analysis in conditions that might otherwise lead to false detection. Analysing and correlating events to a timeline
The scene is analysed using the 4D 'reasoning engine' to assess the events in the scene in terms of both space and time. Because events are correlated using the relevance of time, the 4D system is able to identify a transition in the behaviour of individual - from what would be considered normal behaviour, to a pattern of behaviour that is considered suspicious. Mitigating the effects of illumination
The overall scene can clearly be seen as comprising both areas of both heavy shadow and areas that are highly illuminated. Depite the fact that the 3D detection zone is affected by these contrasting states of illumination, the 4D video analytics are able to accurately monitor the flow of cars in front of the airport, raising an alert when traffic stops moving.
