Unlike conventional video encoding technologies, such as MPEG4 and H.264, TVI was designed and optimised specifically for mobile transmission. As a result, it addresses the specific technical challenges associated with both video encoding and data transmission, such as dropping of video frames and build-up of latency – which can both adversely impact surveillance. In essence, TVI is able to perceive, abstract and recognise objects in the image, rather than synthesising changes to an image across frames, using macroblocks and difference coding.
