Digital Barriers' ground sensor, RDC, brings a new philosophy to the traditional ground sensor market.
Designed as a small, quick-to-deploy sensor, RDC is able to protect wide areas and remote assets from unauthorised access, using superior detection algorithms which transmit alarms over its low power mesh network back to a master node from where users can be alerted. With long battery life and the option to add real-time video streaming on alarm, RDC has been proven in some of the world's most hostile and demanding operational environments.
At its heart, RDC uses a seismic sensor to detect activity. The sensor is more robust and smaller than components traditionally used for unattended ground sensors. It is also less sensitive to the angle of tilt so does not require the sensor to be carefully aligned when deployed and it is more immune to external electromagnetic fields. RDC can detect intrusion of personnel at distances between 20 and 70 metres, depending upon the ground type.
PROVEN SENSOR ALGORITHMS
RDC's standard algorithms can reliably detect and distinguish between people and vehicles. Based on advanced single-processing techniques and exhaustive testing under many different environmental conditions, RDC's algorithms have been tuned to provide accurate alarming and classification. A number of more specialist detection algorithms are available on request.
LOW POWER MESH RADIO NETWORK
RDC comes with a built-in very low power mesh radio network allowing two-way communications of alarms and remote configuration and control of sensor nodes. The mesh network is self-forming and self-healing so that it is simple to deploy and very robust. Using low transmission power and spread spectrum, it also has a very stealthy profile. The radio operates over licence-exempt frequencies available in most parts of the world.
A principle design consideration for RDC was battery duration of around four months from a single D cell-sized battery. This performance is independent of the rate of detections and provides the optimal balance between size and weight of node from a deployment perspective and revisit rate.
FULLY COVERT DEPLOYMENT
RDC's low profile, auger-shaped design has been optimised for maximum seismic transmission and includes an integral aerial, meaning no external antenna is needed. This means RDC is capable of being completely buried, providing a solution when coupled with its stealthy mesh-transmission profile, that is capable of highly covert operation.
QUICK TO DEPLOY
Designed to be light, small, rugged and quick to deploy, RDC's unique auger design with installation tools get sensors into the ground quickly and efficiently with no digging. Specialist deployment aids are also provided to allow geolocation of nodes and rapid diagnostic of mesh signal strength and ground conditions for optimal usage.
LOW FALSE-ALARM RATES
RDC's seismic-sensing algorithms have been extensively tested and tuned to provide class-leading false-alarm rates. Alarm rules operating across the sensor network can be applied to reduce false-alarm rates to near zero for many applications.
INTEROPERABILITY WITH OTHER SENSOR TYPES
RDC includes mesh-only nodes that allow third-party sensors, such as passive infrared or magnetic anomaly, to be included in the sensor field. This provides maximum flexibility to utilise the right mix of sensors for each deployment within a common environment.
REAL-TIME VIDEO CONFIRMATION
RDC has been designed to work closely with, TVI, Digital Barriers' real-time wireless video technology. The tightly integrated capability means that RDC sensor nodes can be used to trigger video surveillance cameras to provide users with real-time visual confirmation of alarms.
