Digital Barriers launches combined face mask detection and people counting solution to keep businesses COVID-secure

Combined monitoring solution screens those that approach stores and other locations to ensure the required guidelines are followed

03 December 2020 – Digital Barriers, a leading provider of edge-intelligent surveillance and security technologies, today announced the release of a combined, real-time face mask detection and people counting solution. The company’s MDX solution is designed to help businesses such as retail stores, supermarkets, transportation hubs, restaurants and entertainment venues around the world to comply with national government guidelines around wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing. By rapidly and remotely detecting missing face masks and monitoring occupancy levels, businesses have a quick and simple method to automate monitoring processes, all from a single solution.

The dual-purpose solution utilises the company’s native high-performance video analytics to automatically screen individuals as they approach a store or designated location. The analytics dashboard then triggers a monitor to display a different instruction dependent on the situation, such as whether an individual is permitted entry based on capacity and as well as whether they are wearing an appropriate form of face covering.

Digital Barriers’ technology reduces the risks of confrontation between staff and customers, introducing COVID-compliant monitoring whilst maintaining sensitivities to individual privacy and social distancing. Multiple entrances can be screened remotely, eliminating the need for security personnel at every entrance, allowing staff to be positioned more efficiently. Alerts can be seen securely and in real-time from any connected device, with a vast array of reporting options including capacity levels and peak occupancy times as well as those observing face mask regulation available on demand.

Zak Doffman, CEO at Digital Barriers, said “This is a hugely challenging time for businesses of all sizes and within all sectors across the UK, as regulations and tiered structures evolve. We wanted to provide an easy-to-use solution that can be rapidly deployed, and which can help our customers comply with regulations without being pushed into potentially confrontational exchanges with their customers.

While the MDX solution can be used to mandate compliance, we advise its use as a reminder to customers as they enter a shop or restaurant, a gym or workplace. In our experience, most of the public are keen to be compliant recognising the reason behind the rules. This just provides a nudge to wait your turn and ensure you are wearing a mask before you walk inside.”

Digital Barriers’ face mask detection and people counting solution can be deployed as a standalone system or as part of a network, linked to a centralised monitoring system.
